As I go through the blueprint and roadmap of the Smart School document, I noticed that no one can deny the importance of ICT in education. Since the 80's the Malaysian Ministry of Education has embarked on numerous projects to introduce ICT in education in schools. The smart school blueprint and Roadmaps shows how the Ministry's effords to push forward the use of ICT in the teaching and learning process as a means to widen students' knowledge, skills and experiences beyond textbook. These initiatives include initiatives on the infrastructure, management of resources, hardware, software, in-house training, on-site projects and smart discussed. The students can use ICT to do their projects/assignment. In smart school program the teachers are encouraged to use ICT to source information from the internet, virtual encyclopedias and CDs in preparing their lesson, tasks, electronic teaching aids as well using ICT to deliver lessons in their classroom.
The route to the implementation of ICT in education is lined with challences such as listed below:
An opinion on how ICT can be integrated into my teaching and learning process as below:
Background studies:
“New technologies have emerged to cause a fundamental shift in pedagogical practices in our classrooms. The teaching and learning of science and mathematics in schools have improved due to the convergence of computers and communication technologies. Instructional strategies that promote the effective use of information technology have been identified as best practices in improving the quality of teaching in most countries. These best practices encourage active learning where teachers are facilitators and students are independent learners”
In this modern era, telecommunication and multimedia technology is practiced globally and has become a required living skill. Studies by Milan Tai Bt Abdullah one of the headmistress in Muar, Johor found that to integrated ICT in teaching and learning process are by creating a new paradigm in teaching and learning by creating a conducive virtual learning school environment through wireless internet. These can be achieve firstly by expanding “HOT SPOT” with the setting up of the “Cyber Library” and “e-Info Centers” , secondly conducting on-going ICT training programmers and thirdly to fully integrate ICT into classroom teaching and learning including for the visually impaired.
Suggestions:
Below are a few suggestions by the researcher on how The ICT can integrate into my teaching and learning process:
1. “Virtual Class”
The teachers need to store all the notes, module and exercises in hard disc in e-library so that easy for the students and others teachers to refer and shared the info. Students and teachers can communicate easily through e-mail or chi chat at night or weekend including sending the assignment or task given by the teachers.
2. “Video Conferencing”
The students can chit-chat with peer from different countries for exchange or share an ideas or the knowledge.
3. Smart e-Classroom
The entire classrooms have fully furniture with smart interactive whiteboard.
4. Contructionvism theory by collaborative-“on-line learning” where the teachers or students sending, receiving and sharing the info through various elements such as texts, graphic, audio video and animation.
5. “Crossing Global Borders”
Encouraging the students to involve in competition of ICT at International level for the good exposures and experience.
